So here’s how things looked a few years back:
And here’s how some at the San Francisco Planning Department looked at our projected population going out 44 years from now:
But do you notice anything, like if you’re optimistic, like if population 1.47 million on our 46.something square miles would be a good thing? Oh yeah, we’d have to step up, big time, see?
Aren’t we pretty dense already?
That’s right, newcomer, second densest big city in the USA. And that’s in part due to the fact that we’re not actually 7×7, 49 square miles the way they tell you, even including all our islands and rocks inside our borders with San Mateo County and Marin County and Contra Costa County and Alameda County all of it. (But not of course including SFO or our jail down in San Bruno or what we stole relating to the Hetch Hetchy dam or our leaky and water hungry golf course down in Pacifica – yes we have a big say in what goes on in these places, but they are in other counties, not San Francisco. And another thing, newcomer, and I can call you that since I’m a newcomer myself, we’re denser than you think we are, and way denser than, what, Daegu, South Korea anywho and also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hong_Kong and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo, welcome to town.)
In closing, our Planning Gods Must Be Crazy.
